Without You

Your love is like a fairy tale, no end
A greater love than any friend could give
You came to live in this bitter heart when
I despised the very essence of who you are,
For your existence seemed so far from this disappointing life
Nothing ever seemed right!
A God so divine?
A God who knows no time?
Yet in the midst of absolute despair I would cry out your name;
“Oh God, are you really there? If you are, than why all this pain?”
I wanted so bad to hate you!
Yet as my life lay broken and empty and
When everything meant nothing and nothing was all I had;
You were my last chance!
And still, some of my understanding is lost
I may not ever know your awesome plan but
I knew how I felt when you took me by your hand
And led me beside the still waters
And laid me down in green pastures
You opened my eyes so I could finally see,
That your love is a greater love than
Anything anyone could ever know!
Without you, we are lost souls
Wandering the night with nowhere to go

Father

Distracted,
Your light pierces through
Racing,
To catch a glimpse of you
Where winter trees
Stand upright,
Wickedly composed
Half painted sky
I cry out father
and this night refuses
to dismiss
I cannot move
a soul to save me
I cannot paint this sky
I cannot
Only you can perform such
I feel you come to me
With arms opened wide
I lay frozen;
My earthly father was
Nothing like you
It’s too much for me to handle
Forgive me for not letting go
I don’t know how
To get past the scared little girl
I try all the time
and all I do is rhyme

Recently, I was reminded of this poem I wrote nearly 7
years ago when talking to a friend. We talked about
how we relate our fathers to our Father in heaven and
how we have a hard time accepting His Love, which is
perfect and unimaginable.
